Compassionate Care

The words 'cura' and 'cure' derive from a centuries-old term for 'spiritual care'. The work of the CURA lab seeks to honor this origin through compassionate and rigorous science focused on the relief of profound suffering.

Currently available treatments often fall short in addressing the deep despair and spiritual pain experienced by the millions of Americans with life-threatening illnesses, especially those facing structural factors that can make care out of reach and healthcare outcomes disparate.

Even when definitive or disease-modifying treatments are not available, many patients can still benefit from care that supports their morale over the course of their illness, helping them move from despair to hope, from a place of pain to one of peace. This is compassionate care—when clinicians accompany patients on the journey through their suffering, including by working to open new regulatory pathways to care, and by discovering new potentials for healing.
